Addressing Global Warming

Universities across North America are dealing with the question of how to help combat global warming, and in particular, whether they should divest from fossil fuel companies.

To encourage a broad, inclusive discussion, the University is organizing three panel discussions on March 21. Panellists will each make a short presentation (five to seven minutes), followed by a discussion and questions from the audience. Light refreshments will be served.

Program:

11:00 a.m. | uOttawa’s Role in Combatting Global Warming
A discussion on the pros and cons of divestment, the actions the University has taken to reduce emissions and what else can be done.

12:30 p.m. | Climate Solutions for Canada
A discussion on the contributions uOttawa researchers and policy experts can make to help Canada transition to a low-carbon economy.

1:50 p.m. | Paving the Way for Divestment in Canadian Universities (student panel)
This panel will discuss the moral imperative to pave the way as a leader in sustainability and the merits of divestment as a successful tool in fighting climate change.
