#MakeItHappen: From Engineer to Tech Entrepreneur — A Conversation with Mina Lux
The NSERC-Pratt & Whitney Chair for Women in Science and Engineering (Ontario Region), Dr. Catherine Mavriplis, is pleased to present #MakeItHappen: From Engineer to Tech Entrepreneur — A Conversation with Mina Lux, in celebration of International Women's Day 2015.
Mina Lux is a digital marketing veteran. In the mid-1990s, she left a promising pharmaceutical engineering career to embark on an incredible adventure in cyberspace. A gutsy entrepreneur, Mina took a calculated risk and cofounded the direct marketing technology firm FloNetwork. In 1996, at FloNetwork, she developed the first email technology platform that enabled companies to send direct emails and newsletters for lead generation and revenue. Lacking funding to fuel her dream, she creatively partnered with Hallmark to build its first viable email greeting card engine, and then turned the technology into a behaviour-monitoring direct email/newsletter ASP technology platform.
Due to its entrepreneurial sensibility, technological advancements and most of all, footing in the direct marketing and digital marketing vertical, FloNetwork served as a Harvard Business School curriculum case study. In 2000, the company was the first email marketing ASP worldwide to win the Deloitte & Touche Canadian Technology Fast 50 award and the North American Technology Fast 500 award. It was acquired by DoubleClick for $80 million in 2001 (In 2007, Google acquired Double Click for $3.1 billion in cash.). The technology developed by Lux now is an integral part of Google Ads.
Mina went on to a tremendous career in digital marketing, running various major media online entities including USATODAY.com, CNN/HLN and SpinMedia, and spending seven years as the managing director and vice-president online at Scientific American.
Today, Mina is the founder and CEO of Meelo Logic, the first consumer reach and engagement analytics platform delivering comprehensive real-time insights from all digital channels generated from brand activities anywhere.
