Gérald A. Beaudoin Foundation

 

This fund was established in 2005 by the Honourable Gérald A. Beaudoin, professor emeritus and former dean of the Civil Law Section, three years before his death in 2008. The objective of this fund is to support the legal education and research mission of the Civil Law Section at uOttawa’s Faculty of Law.

 

Mr. Beaudoin was awarded the Légion d'honneur by the French government at a ceremony at the French Embassy in Ottawa on November 3, 2005, a tribute to his remarkable contributions to the Francophonie. In 1973, Mr. Beaudoin became vice-president for Canada of the Institut international de droit d'expression française. He was appointed to the Senate of Canada in 1988 and sat in the upper house until April 2004. He also authored many books and wrote or co-wrote a range of essays on the Canadian constitution, on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and on human rights in Canada and abroad. The Canadian Bar Association awarded him the Walter S. Tarnopolsky Human Rights Award in 2002.
