Faculty of Science Dean’s Luncheon presents The Future of our North Toxicology and environmental-health specialist sheds light on the future of our northern lands The 2015 Alumni Week is now over. We look forward to seeing you in 2016! If you’re interested in this event, don’t miss “Political Panel: Can environmental sustainability be reconciled with political interests and economic realities?” taking place at 2 p.m. on May 6th! Want to see the future of our country? Look north. Climate change and development of massive deposits of oil, natural gas and minerals of many kinds are producing profound effects on the people, communities and ecosystems of Canada’s northern and Arctic regions. Laurie Chan, uOttawa professor and Canada Research Chair in Toxicology and Environmental Health, is delving into these effects to grasp the tricky relationships and repercussions among environmental change, ecosystem health and food security. The answers he is now uncovering will enable us to create vital new climate-adaptation plans, public-health programs and environmental policies. The stakes couldn’t be higher: the prosperity of the northern economy, the sustainability of the northern environment and the health of northerners. Dr. Chan shares the latest results of his findings and points out where they are leading us all. Show up and get a glimpse of our Canadian future. Right now.
